Faith Formation News

Children (Pre-K through Grade 5):

We offer classes for the following ages:

· Pre-K (age 4) & K

· Grades 1 -3

· Grades 4 & 5

October’s Bible story:

Abraham and Sarah

Kids will get to experience the story fun activities!

St. Philip continues our Spark Faith Formation, modeled on the Vacation Bible School format. Students experience a Bible Story for four weeks, using different media to tell the story. In this model, kids spend more than one week on a Bible story and visit a different workshop each week in order to experience that same story with different perspectives. Workshop rotations include: Art, Bible Skills and Games, Cooking, Creative Drama, Music, Science, and Video.

Tweens & Teens:

Middle School: re:form Bible study! Sixth graders will now be in the Middle School class! This really a cool video-based study (Oh yeah!!) Bible study is based on questions youth would actually ask about their faith: Did Jesus know he was God? Can I be Christian without going to church? Etc. Led by Pastor D, Artie and Kelly Strunk, Vicar Jen, and Emily Anderson.

High School: re:form Ancestors – this video-based bible study takes us through the lives of some of the great people in the bible, including their not-so-great moments. High School Sunday School will be led by Lori Clark and Pastor David.

Adult Faith Formation:

Adult Sunday School: Offering of Letters, Oct. 2 & 9 – You are invited to join in urging members of Congress to provide a circle of protection around those most vulnerable in our society. During this time of debt crisis and budget cuts for deficit reduction, members of Congress are asked to protect U.S. programs that provide assistance to hungry people. Such programs include the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) that helps struggling families to put food on the table, and the Special Supplemental Nutrition Program for Women, Infants, and Children - better known as the WIC Program that helps moms and their children to have nutritious meals.

Family Ministry Bible Study: NEW!!! Begins Oct. 16. A study specially designed for our families with children – but everyone is invited! We will study the same stories that the children are studying in Sunday school. Learn the stories along with your kids so you can discuss them together as a family. This study requires no preparation and has no homework! The group will meet in the Fellowship Hall.
